In the Plaza de San Sebastián square you can visit the kilometre zero of Andalucía or taking a seat next to two of the most important persons of our history, Jose Antonio Muñoz Rojas, poet, and José María Fernandez, painter. Antequera symbolizes its geographical centre with a milestone marking the centre of the communications in Andalucía, a column of Torcal red colour where there is an inscription about the centrality of Antequera along History, such as it is proved by the “Via Domiciana Augusta” a Roman via through which “Anticaria” (the Antequera name in Roman times) was step forced for the provinces of Hispania.

Parque Glorieta Rojas Pérez

It is a new garden area devoted to the most famous dogs in the world, with illustrative panels explaining the story of each one of them: Lassie, a cinema star; Snoopy, the pet of one generation; Laika, the astronaut lady dog; Pipper, the most influencer traveller dog; Ajax, the bravest dog; Hachiko, the most loyal dog; Pancho, the lucky dog; and Roselle and Salty, dog heroes. The purpose of this space remodelling is that, both adults and children, get to know how important those considered as the “best friend of human” are. At the top of the hill, we find the bust of Ajax, a masterpiece devoted to the dog who, in 2009, prevented an ETA terrorist attack in the Balearic town of Palmanova.

The Royal Promenade is a large cultural and leisure space with more than 10,000 square meters where the little ones will enjoy the Parque Infantil de la Negrita playground, one of the most entertaining parks which was awarded in 2016 with the Golden Swing for its design, accessibility, safety, and innovation.

Mirador Michael Hoskin Antequera

Michael Hoskin Viewpoint

This viewpoint was placed next to the Arco de los Gigantes (Giants’ Arch) to pay tribute to the British archeoastronomer, Michael Hoskin, who is the responsible for the decisive research to award the Antequera Dolmens Site as UNESCO World Heritage as regards the singularities discovered and proved about the Menga, Viera and El Romeral dolmens orientation. In the centre of the viewpoint, we find a bust in bronze facing the La Peña de los Enamorados.

Plaza de San Agustín

In this pedestrian square placed in the centre of Antequera, you will find the monument to the Fraternities of the Holy Week. It is a sculpture of a fraternity’s old brother holding a fork in his hand and who is accompanied by a “bell child” wearing a luxury robe. In this way, it is reproduced the fraternity’s generational shift between fathers and sons.

Plaza Fernández Viagas Antequera

Plaza Fernández Viagas

It is a square designed for everybody right in the centre of the town. Just in the middle, we find the monument of Placido Fernández Viagas, the first President of the Junta de Andalucía. In 2016, this reformed space received an award by the prestigious Club de Jardinería de la Costa del Sol (gardening association) which, during over 50 years, has been awarding projects which stand out for promoting gardening and landscape. In addition, this square stands out because its biodiversity, optimization, and sustainability of energy consumption plus requirements of cultural managing.

Plaza de San Luis

The Plaza de San Luis square, a new and attractive urban space remodelled in 2012, is dominated by the sculpture of the Spanish Independence War’s national hero, the Capitan Moreno. Thanks to this remodelling, this symbolic entry of the town became a new tourist and monumental point of interest for the Antequera people and visitors.
